Multiple AED Devices Donated to Channahon Baseball
From the Channahon Fire Protection District
Today, November 5, 2024, marks a memorable day for the Channahon Baseball League.
Several weeks ago, a person went into cardiac arrest at the Channahon Baseball Fields.
Had this person not received CPR from a bystander and the use of an AED from the Channahon Fire ambulance crew and the Channahon Police Department, this person may not be with us today.
The board at Channahon Baseball quickly realized how valuable an AED device would be to them, their members, and families of their organization. One AED would probably not be enough considering the distance between fields. One device per field would be safer.
The Channahon Baseball Board contacted Chief Petrakis expressing their desire to obtain two AEDs and the need for assistance choosing the correct one for their specific needs. They also expressed how they are a small organization, and the cost of the AEDs were not in their current budget. Chief Petrakis shared their story with his team, and they began researching grants and other ways to fund two AED devices.
Deputy Chief Jeff Toepper and Fire Life Safety Educator Sarah Fellows were presenting that night at a community event. They mentioned the story about the cardiac arrest at the Channahon baseball field and their desire for AEDs. Christina Guice, Plant Manager at AmSty and Bob Svidron, Site Leader at DuPont stepped in without hesitation, saying they would be honored to donate the AEDs to Channahon Baseball League.
Channahon Baseball was THRILLED by this news, as well as everyone at Channahon Fire Protection District.
Today, AmSty, DuPont, the Channahon Fire Protection District, and the Channahon Police Department all came together to deliver the AEDs to the Channahon Baseball League and celebrate the greatness of a community coming together.
